Jerome, I think Anne's enthusiasm stems from all the good things JP-II is widely credited with, like implementing Vatican II, and helping the old Soviet Union implode, and reaching out to other faiths and apologizing for past Catholic atrocities. But there is another side that is pretty sordid for a Pope.
I am surprised that your analyses excluded JP-IIs abject failures to use the Vatican's influence to address the genocidal atrocities in Kosovo, Rwanda and Darfur, his total callousness towards the victims of the pedophile priests, especially in the US, his blaming the media for exposing that problem, and his cynical appointment of ex-Boston-Cardinal John Law as "arch-priest" at Santa Maria Maggiore, one of the Basilicas attached to the Vatican, after Law had resigned in disgrace to avoid prosecution in the US for enabling the pedophilia to continue and trying to cover up the evidence. We all know about all the good things JP-II did, but just the actions above should disqualify him from sainthood in my never-humble opinion. I was appalled when Pope Benny XVI "fast tracked" his beatification process. Mother Theresa he certainly was not. --- JEROME DSOUZA <[email protected]> wrote: > Dear Anne > > I have recently signed up with goanet and of late I > have been studying the > true Catholic faith.I am amused at your enthusiasm > with JP2(as is with other > Catholics around the world)
