To: Shree S. Jaipal Reddy, Hon'ble Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Shastri Bhavan, New Delhi. Sir, Subject: Setting up of a daily regional news bulletin in Konkni language in Doordarshan Kendra- Panaji - Goa. It is the policy of Government of India to disseminate information on welfare programmes of the government throughout the country through the medium of Doordarshan Kendra. Accordingly, such units have been established in all state capitals of the country. Goa too has a Doordarshan Kendra. However, this Kendra does not provide a daily news bulletin in 'Konkni' the state language which is spoken and understood by 98% of the people of Goa. So the major national and state events taking place in Goa go unreported in Konkni language which is detrimental to the interests of Goans. Last year, the International Film Festival was held in Panaji, the state's capital, but was not covered properly by the local Doordarshan Kendra for want of a NEWS UNIT at the Kendra, Panaji. We therefore request you to kindly look into this matter and order the establishment of news units in Doordarshan Kendra, Panaji, in order to meet the demands of the people of Goa. Yours Sincerely, for Goa Su-Raj Party Sd/- (Floriano C. Lobo) General Secretary Copy to: Mrs. Margaret Alva - incharge Goa Desk- AICC, Jawahar Bhavan, New-Delhi-1. Copy to: Mr. Churchill Alemao, MP (South Goa) with request to pursue the matter with the Hon'ble I&B Minister, New Delhi.
