The showman of Konkani stage Prince Jacob has released his new tiatr Roddo Naka and it has come out with a bang. As always, thanks to the innovative ideas introduced on Konkani stage by Prince Jacob, the audience has got another opportunity to watch something unique, as far as stage setting and the theme chosen is concerned. Roddo Naka is not merely a drama with casual pills for laughter by Prince Jacob and his brother Humbert, but along with the entertainment, theres a powerful message and morale for every viewer. In a gist, unless the society raises its voice against the cruelty meted out on weaker sections of the society, justice will never prevail and its pointless regretting later. The story revolves around a poor family where the mother (Diana) and her daughter Sonia (Carmen) lead a simple, but a contented life together. As Sonias boyfriend is abroad, she decides to take up a job as a secretary at the Education Ministers chamber, only to assist her mother financially in her old age. But while Sonia is all excited with the new appointment, in the absence of the Education Minister (Jacinto Gracias), his son, Mark (Mark Araujo) takes advantage of the situation and instantly rapes the secretary. In order to cover the entire episode, Mark offers money to the peon, Laxman (Rosario de Benaulim) and insists on delivering some money to the victims family. The member of Zagrut Bailanchi Fouz, Priyanka Cordeiro (Annie Quadros), who has also been a victim of a similar situation earlier, steps in to assist the rape victim and seek justice for her. But the entire issue gets suppressed due to the influence of the minister and the police officials. !n the bargain, the rape victim faces humiliation in the family and in the society. Observing the lust for women, the minister feels disgusted with his son. But ultimately does he succeed in correcting his notorious son? Does Priyanka succeed in getting justice for Sonia? What happens later is best seen on the stage in this wonderfully presented play that keeps one anxiously guessing till the end. As Prince Jacob is known for innovations on Konkani stage, the innovative idea introduced in his latest drama is the unique stage setting. There are three different scenes created on one stage with no curtains raised after every scene, except for the songs. The light effects and music are well timed & Annie Quadros as usual has a good command over her role as Priyanka, while Carmens role of Sonia is also great. Mark Araujo plays the role of Mark in style. Daina, Elvis, Jacinto and Rosario do justice to their respective roles. Newcomer Lorraine playing the role of Vasanti is a treat to watch, while Prince Jacob (police constable Jack Santan) and Humbert (PA Mergulhao) steal the show by their rib tickling comedy. The songs in the tiatr include a duo by Prince Jacob & Humbert playing rich tributes to Padmashree M Boyer, (a trio Cheddvam by Annie/Carmen/Lorraine), Murtichem Devosanv a solo by Rosario de Benaulim, Italiachem Mana by Prince Jacob/ Humbert/ Elvis and Crooner by Prince Jacob/ Humbert/ Elvis and Rosario are hilarious songs well received by the audience. Songs like Gorv by Connie M/F X Pereira/ Bonny de Alvim, tribute to Pope John Paul II by F X Pereira and Bonny are very thought provoking. Music by Phillip and Jolly Boys is pleasant. Light effects by John and beautiful set designed by Chari make the play even more effective. Besides the entertainment, this tiatr is a must for everyone and worth the money. See it with the family as it has something for everyone, not to be missed.
