Dear Basilio Monteiro:

I feel sorry and sad that Santosh Helekar is unnecessarily involving Basilio to defend his indefensible inaccuracies. I do not know how someone may refute what Santosh himself has admittedly affirmed that inaccuracies existed in his said article, as pointed out by others. (Plse see quotes below in Santosh Helekar’s post of June 30, 2003).

Every author who publishes his posts should be openly receptive to constructive criticism. Also, the author should act professionally and correct any inaccuracies that are pointed out to him by the audience or readers. I believe people have the right to question any information that is provided by an author, by way of recitation or publication, or do you not agree on this point. I would hasten to add that Santosh has been doing exactly that all his life, -- i.e. correcting other netters’ posts as he deemed fit. Well, would it be so difficult for Santosh to swallow his own dose of medicine that he so freely and frequently administers others?

Now, I am dumbfounded that you are still defending Santosh’s position, despite the fact that Santosh himself has unambiguously admitted that there was inaccurate information in his article, as pointed out to Santosh in two posts (relevant texts portions of which are appended below).

I am pleased to note that Santosh went as far into the past as he

The dating of the people in Goa may be incorrect (as was suggested

How exciting!

Any clarification on the dates of migration of people and of the
origin of religions would be welcome

Thanks, Ben and Gilbert, for your compliments and thoughtful
comments. Ben, the Kurukhs, Maraungs and the pastoral tribes are
indeed thought to be of Dravidian stock. So you are right that the
first migrants in Goa were Dravidians from the south.

Gilbert, Yes, the dates are very likely inaccurate. However, the
above early tribes cannot be deemed to be civilized by any stretch of
imagination. They were mostly cave dwellers, and hunters, gatherers
and scavengers. The pastoral tribe might have domesticated the
buffalo. But they did not do any planned and organized farming.]

I am flabbergasted that despite Santosh’s explicit admission of the pointed inaccuracies, you insist that you do not know of any inaccuracies in the paper authored by Santosh Helekar. In order to dispel any doubts in this matter, I would kindly suggest that you please refer to the said paper again, and examine it to ascertain the veracity in context with specific references made above, -- where the <pointed> inaccuracies exist.

Since Santosh is in a habit of changing his statements, he still has the option to challenge his own assertion and admission and tell those that pointed the errors that they were wrong and he [Santosh] is right. In this case, Santosh should tell readers that he was earlier wrong in making his self-admission, which he now believes was inadvertently (inaccurate).

If either Santosh or you can prove that there were absolutely no inaccuracies -- and the subject article in its entirety was inarguably and unquestionably accurate, then I am prepared to withdraw my statement pertaining to the said post.

If not why don’t we put this matter to rest, as all that is to be proven has been proved. Now, there is no point beating a dead horse.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this has caused you Basilio Monteiro and the readers, but this case is now incontestable and closed. This is my final posting on this issue.

Thank you for your kindness and understanding.

Joe Vaz
