Hello Goanetters,

This was on todays news 22 july. I don’t know which Goa Chandrakant keni stays
in when he says Devanagri script belongs to hindus will be a great
distortation of facts, for that in reality is very true and to a very select
hindus. Maybe in north Goa one will find frequent use of devanagri Konkani
that too is doubtful, but than go to south, or for that matter even in mapuca
a domain of BJP, and even there one will find more use of Konkani, which is
roman in accent. Go to any shop used by hindus, and he will find frequent use
of roman Konkani. Its such thoughts that are dividing the people as Christians
and hindus, wish that all this was sorted out and come to general publics
demanded request. I find it difficult to understand devanagri Konkani when
spoken on doordarshan. Wonder how many people will go for Konkani dramas once
they start doing them in devanagri, even there will be a drastic reduction in
church goers, maybe the devanagri lovers have a much bigger game plan to make
Goa a footstool of BJP. Even the employment of young goans will be a hurdle
for those who speak roman Konkani.

Cheers

Jerry Fernandes

Save Konkani from one more ordeal
By Chandrakant Keni
A handful of people are now trying to drag Konkani in politically vitiated
controversies of religion and cases. They claim that the Catholics in Goa want
Roman script while people of South Karnataka want Kannad script to retain
their distinct identity. To say that Devanagri script belongs to Hindus will
be a great distortion of facts. (GT)
