It's 3.30 pm now and the flood waters are stabilizing. The entire morning was rainy, but the intensity of the rain has reduced to moderate rainfall to drizzles. However, since the rain hasn't stopped for almost 48 hours now, the water outside my home is at the same height since late morning, which is knee deep water.
This means that it's possible for large vehicles to pass through, but small vehicles like cars and bike sputter and stop. A little while ago, an minister passed by with sirens and a police convoy, but did not stop, much to everyone's disappointment. The rain is still pouring and the wind is howling. The river Sals flood waters have slowly risen above the road level and now is beyond ankle keep in some areas. Bikes passing through some sections are beginning to sputter and stop as water is getting into the engines. Cars that usually speed past are stopping, and now trying to gauge if they can cross over to Margao safely before they venture out. Visibility is low, and thats dangerous as vehicles cold end up in the drink should they mistakenly guide their vehicles too much to the side (and into the field). We now have 'waves' of river water hitting our entrance gate everytime a car passes my. I can hear the migrants on the other sides of the field making a noise, as their huts are beyond inundated, and they now moving temporarily to higher ground. Power is expected to go anytime soon, so if that does, so do these updates! At these levels, I could barely make it to work in a Car, or else, I would have to wade though knee deep water, and hopefully not, waist deep water if the waters rise! With no sign of the rain stopping, so I guess my planned schedule for today has gone down the drain and into the flooded Sal! The picture that I posted last night was taken yesterday, on Sunday evening at 5pm. In the picture, you will see my home which is the white house on the left.
