Dear Dr. Willie, The Notification announcing the acquisition of the Salmona Spring area by the government, is published in the Herald today, 1 August 2005.
It is an important step in the long struggle to save the last natural heritage spot in the village. It is a battle in which Saligaokars and Goenkars around the world fought hard and consistently for over five months now, a battle that started three years ago in November 2002. But it also a struggle in which you as our MLA have played a significant role and we appreciate the part you played. We would like to thank you for all the time, trouble and effort you have so far put into making the acquisition a reality. We know that you also have the conservation of this ecologically fragile zone, close to your heart. We pledge to work along with you and the government to preserve this entire belt as a protected private forest, conservation zone and bird sanctuary and maintain it in its pristine form. We urge that work on the offending structure stops immediately. The people are willing to demolish it and even collect funds from among themselves to help the government demolish it. Thanks once again for all the hard work you put it. Looking forward towards working together to preserve Salmona for future generations of Saligaokars and Goenkars worldwide. Solidarity.
