Some time ago, there was news item posted on Goanet about the landslide
near Margao which claimed some eight lives. It was said that the illegal
construction could not be removed because the local MLA prevented the
administration from acting since they were part of his vote bank. I had
said that this is a serious matter, and those of us who are concerned about
democracy, and good governance, should take up this issue as a group. I
had said that the name of the MLA should be made known to the people at
large. One person responded asking which constituency does the illegal
construction fall in. Since I live in Mumbai, and am not familiar with the
topography, I had asked some members to respond.
I find that there is no interest in others being concerned about this
tragedy, and work towards preventing it in future. I am surprised about
this silence on this forum.
