Airport horizon full of question marks By The Daily News editorial board - Our View for Wednesday, Aug. 10 <Greenville's runway currently is 4,200 feet long. Most insurance companies require 5,000 feet to accommodate jets.> Recently we were told that the plan was for a 6000 foot runway at Seabird. If that is the case, then the Seabird runway should be quite OK for jets as per the above snippet. What is the Navy waiting for? It should go full steam ahead for the airfield there and shift the training of Sea Harrier and MIG-29K pilots out of Dabolim. If terrain is a problem then blast the hills. It would be in a good cause. Its futile for the Navy to wait expectantly till Dabolim is declared the sole landing site for any Indian shuttle launched from Kerala or Andhra Pradesh rocket launching stations! No other mission seems to be on the cards.
