NEW BISHOP ORDAINED IN KUWAIT.

Today Friday 2nd September 2005 is the most important day in the history of Kuwait Catholics becuase today at 5.00 p.m. in Kuwait City Church that is Holy Family Cathedral an Italian priest Camilo Ballini was ordained as new Bishop of Kuwait. A galaxy of priest, Bishops and Cardinals were present to witness the ordination of the new Bishop who looks youthful and very energetic. He is the 4th Bishop of Kuwait Vicaerate after Bishop Stella an Italian who helped building both the Churhces at Kuwait city and at Ahmadi; Bishop Victor Sanminguel a Spanish and the outgoing Bishop Francis Mechallef a Maltese who served Kuwait Church for 24 years.

Today's ordination was also attended by a sea of humanity inside the Church and in the Church compound besides diplomats and members and heads of other Churches. It looked great to see the ordination of the new Bishop taking place in Kuwait for the first time. Over one and a half lakh of Catholics in Kuwait from different nationalities took pride and pleasure over the ordination of new Bishop.

On behalf of myself and all my like minded community members that is, Goans, who are the oldest Catholics in Kuwait serving and promting the Catholic Church in Kuwait for a long time now, I welcome the new Bishop His Lordship Camilo to Kuwait and pray to God to give him courage and wisdom to take care of Catholics residing in Kuwait with judicious and compasionate decisions without being bias towards any single Catholic community. May God also give the new Bishop good health to take care of all the Catholics in Kuwait. In the words of Goan language Konkani I say to the new Bishop "BESSAUM TUJER PODDONK RE SORGINCHEA DEVA BAPACHEM".

A. Veronica Fernandes,
Kuwait.
