Three items in one day's paper: 1. "Mickky questions Churchill's action over Mopa airport". A misleading title actually. The report only shows that one politician is merely interested in criticizing another (in this case Matanhy Saldanha too) and not adding a whit to our knowledge about Dabolim/Seabird/Mopa.
2. "Political opposition to Mopa airport gathering storm". The only new thing here is the bit that Mopa is supposed to have a "separate helicopter area" including a hangar for 4 choppers. Is this to facilitate Naval operations at Mopa? Will the second runway planned at Mopa be reserved for Navy use? No dope on all this. 3. Editorial: "Hypocrisy". "With no politician raising the topic [of Mopa] in the Legislative Assembly even the opposition is silent on this". What an astounding admission! NO discussion in the Assembly of a Rs 1000 crore project! Of course this may be because there has probably never been a discussion of DABOLIM in the Assembly since it may be "none of the government's business" (being under Navy control). What a crazy game! So people go round and round the mulberry bush singing "Navy, quit Dabolim. North Goa, forget Mopa" and nothing really happens for almost a decade. Now some people are singing "Dabolim will continue and Mopa will continue but Mopa will be a dingdong mega airport". The last part of this tune is jarring to say the least!
