Mogal Godfrey, Once again let me THANK YOU and TSKK for the work you good people are doing wrt the Konkani issue.
Now - before I dissect MATHANY SALDANHA v UDAY BHEMBRE, let me clearly state my position on the Konkani issue. 1. The Konkani which is presently being presented to us as Konkani is GMSK or Grabiliciously Modified Saraswat Konkani. This is NOT the Konkani that the vast majority of Konkani-strugglers spoke nor speak at home. 2. Secondly, the vast majority of Konkani-strugglers (those who fought with the Bandodkar-Shashikala Maharashtravadi and the Indira Congress parties for the recognition of Konkani) used (if at all) the Romi script. 3. The first step to understanding the struggle for Konkani is to review the mirage which was presented as Hindi ( Please read Hindi Fundamentalism by Prof Alok Rai, Sangam Books, rs 150:00 ) 4. I hope that Goans are NOT conned by accepting this imposter GMS-Konkani as their Konkani. It cannot be. The Saraswats are NOT the original people of Goa. Their language whatever they may call it CANNOT be the original Konkani. They are most welcome to Goa provided they do NOT impose their language or script (be it Kannada or Devanagri) on Goans. 5. Carmo D'Cruz is absolutely right when he warns of the Kannada "invasion" which will mainly affect South Goa the heartland of Goan Konkani. Please read his script on the matter very clearly. 6. The Goa Newspapers and the alleged Goa Journos have been fairly ineloquent about this. The one Goa journalist who raised cane about Konkani was Rajan Narayan. The others are just ...let's say.. others. MATHANY SALDANHA v UDAY BHEMBRE Now .... to the points raised by you wrt Mathany Saldanha's apparent expose of a letter Uday Bhembre's alleged secular credentials. 7. I am not aware of any sensible non-member of the heirarchy of the Archdiocese of Goa & Daman who believes that Mr. Uday Bhembre is a secular person. Unless the term 'secular' has a new meaning. 8. Mathany's rich record of being a visionary, revolutionary having the courage of his own conviction to call a spade a spade no matter the consequences and his front line involvement re: Birla fertilizer, Konkan Railway, META and with the Ramponkars movement will remain as his legacy. 9. What will also remain as his legacy is his deafening silence at the manhandling in front view of world TV audiences of the representative from my native Velim. 10. Mathany's silence was also noted while at the time of the Mapuca assault, the Fontainhas vandalism and the Jalao Goa incident. (I write this from a distance & even though our networking allows us quite a bit of information on a daily basis .... IF Mathany Saldanha raised his proverbial cane during these happenings, I stand corrected) 11. Nobody's attempts to return Dabolim airport to civilian status will fall on any listening ears. NOT because "elected representatives fail to comprehend the issue or lack the political will" but for two major reasons. One, Goa is still regarded by the armed forces - NOT as a liberated place but as "spoils of war"; Two, No civilian government has the guts to deal with the armed forces. 12. I can accept that Vitamin M disease has not affect Mr Mathany but I wonder why Mathany Saldanha waited this long to relate and re-relate the story at the Mandovi wedding reception where Uday Bhembre is reported to have said (wrt Konkan Railway) that "the Church and the priests should not get involved in such social issues" 13. BTW: Uday Bhembre is NOT the only person to comment about the Goan Catholic weddings and receptions. There have been Catholic Goan alleged Mogis who have commented adversely about things which are essentially NONE of their personal business. So, I would NOT read religious bias in that Goa Today article. Ignorance and Stupidity may be, but NOT religious bias. 14. Wrt The Opinion Poll and some bureaucrat from New Delhi. Uday Bhembre may or may not be right. Perhaps he will advise us of the person concerned and the date that this unnamed "bureaucrat from New Delhi" fathered this idea. From there we can move on and look at HOW this "bureaucrat from New Delhi" came to father this idea...and so on. 15. Whoever was the father of the Opinion Poll, NO PRIZES to anyone for guessing WHO was the Commander in Chief of the Pro-Goa forces and WHO was the Commander in Chief of the Pro-Maharashtra forces. 16. I remember seeing with the good Jack de Sequeira, his baba (Erasmo), Babu Naik, Yeshwant Sitaram Desai, Alfred de Tavares ... and a whole pile of people .....even Dr. Kui ....but NO Uday Bhembre ! good wishes jc For your reading pleasure THEY came to "liberate" this Man of Peace and tortured him ! http://www.colaco.net/1/chico.htm Beware Of Marathiwadis - O Heraldo editorial - December 11, 2002 http://www.colaco.net/1/BewareMarathiwadis.htm The Tale of Two Rivers http://www.colaco.net/1/rivers.htm NRGoan chairman Chandrakant Keni says KICK these NRGs out! http://www.colaco.net/1/KeniBunkPort.htm The MEGA META MESS http://www.colaco.net/1/META.htm
