Sixty Goan footballers for football tuning in Belgaum for five days Our sports Reporter Margao sept : - they have being fired by a ambition. Ambition of seeing Indian football players playing in foreign lands. They have the love of mother land going and a driving goal of reaching the peak in terms of performance on the football field.
Football promotion and nurturing hereto restricted to Goa football association, football clubs and schools in moving to new grounds. New individuals are joining in the race for the greater goal of football promotion in the state. On Monday sixty footballers starting from the age group of 12- 17 left for Belgaum by the Goa express for a week long football orientation camp In Belgaum. The sixty footballers have been drawn from various schools from south and North Goa. Prominent footballers from Loyola hs Margao, St Anthony hs majorda, Bethany convent hs Sao Jose De Areal and Fr Agnel hs Pilar to name a few have made the trip to Belgaum. The persons associated with the group stated that they did not need publicity on an individual level for them. The group call them FIG. They did not wish to elaborate on what FIG stands for. They also added that they are a group of people networking through out the state for the overall goal of giving a new direction to football. Elaborating further they added that they want to groom and train the boys in a scientific way. On membership of the group they disclosed that anybody with football promotion in mind is welcomed to join the group. On special attention given to the age group of 12-17 years, they stated it is the group which holds the key and if adequately nurtured can Indian football to new heights. Football coaching and other football related matters have under gone a drastic changes through out the world and it is right time we keep pace with the latest trend. They also stated that they do not want to want to be hurdles in the path of persons who are already doing the job of football promotion in the state. We do not want a contradictory path they added. Discipline is a key word they stated and the five day stay in Belgaum will also cover the fitness level of the players and theory and practical tests for the footballers. We are preparing the budding footballers for life besides football and to take the challenges of modern football they added. Incidentally two of the group members who have played a key role in FIG accompanied the Goa football association and all India football federation delegation to Portugal which ended in the historic signing of the agreement between Portuguese authorities and Indian football federation for the exchange of coaches and youth development teams from India. Some of the boys who spoke to Gomantak times were all pumped up and overjoyed to make the Belgaum trip. One of them ambelim born striker Samson Fernandes a xi standard student of Cuncolim united higher secondary Cuncolim was happy to make his first tour outside the state and hoped that he will learn some tricks and become a more mentally stronger player.
