Dear Fr. Pratap Naik,
I commend your efforts and innovations on promoting Konkani in the Romi Lipi
(Roman script) - However, I would like to suggest that you change the name
of your emerging movement from ROMI LIPIYECHO AVAZ (ie. Noise About Romi
Lipi) to a more attractive, intelligible name such as ROMI LIPIYECHO ULO (ie
The Call of the Romi Lipi).
I have listed all the discordant definitions of noise below as reasons for
my above suggestion. Also, you may note that "Noise" is a particularly
sensitive word to electrical engineers because it is an "electrical or
acoustic activity that can disturb communication" - we really do not need
such disturbing, negative, unintelligible, undesirable, incomprehensible
connotations to such a noble movement.
Perhaps the negative connotations of Avaz (Noise) may be one of the
underlying reasons why the Konknni Porjecho Avaz (KPA) did not gain much
traction or popularity among our music-loving Porza, and was hijacked and
manipulated by vested interest groups and as a result the Roman script was
betrayed, ignored and rejected. The use of the term Avaz in the new movement
may also take us back to the "dark age" of Konkani history. Let us begin a
new chapter with an attractive new name for the movement: ROMI LIPIYECHO
ULO.

a suitable Konkani term for the Roman Script movement, namely, Romi
Lipiyecho Avaz (RLA). Writes the Jesuit priest, "I thank you for
sending e-mail memorandum to chief minister of Goa. Request your
friends to do so and to send me a copy of it for reference. In
1985, Konknni Porjecho Avaz (KPA) was formed to make Konkani as the
official language of Goa. But unfortunately KPA was hijacked and
manipulated by vested interest groups and Roman script was
betrayed, ignored and rejected. It was the dark age of Konkani
history. Now RLA will try its best to get justice to Roman script.
RLA is not asking favours or gesture of goodwill from the State or
Central governments. RLA demands justice and rightful place for
Roman script which it deserves. We will keep you informed the
