Dear Vivian, Rene, Wendell et al Have just received our latest "Goa Today" magazine and read the Cover Story on the garbage problem - which of course has been ongoing for quite a while. It is great that this problem with its obvious health and environmental hazards as well as the complacency and disregard of the so-called guardians of our what-was-once beautiful State, is being highlighted by them and yourselves. Each year, we visit Goa and when we point out any misdemeanours and dismay to our relatives, they shrug their shoulders and state that any complaints would be useless and fall on stony ground. From afar, we feel for them and for all the good people of Goa who have to endure indignities and problems on a daily basis. Yet, the good humour and simplicity still shines through. Yes, let us shout from our foreign rooftops and hopefully with one voice, effect a change for the better. The Goa Government wants to attract foreign tourists but would the same tourists want to return, when they see the unhygienic and awful conditions that abound? Probably yes, as they are usually cocooned from such things or probably not, if it would affect their well-being!
I will continue to voice my concerns - no fear! Best wishes Anita (Rebello)
