Goa to ban gutka consumption from Oct 2 Panaji: Goa will be the first state in the country to ban consumption of gutka and other such 'injurious food products' in addition to its sale and storage when the ban comes into effect from October 2, state Health Minister Dayanand Narvekar said here today.
"Goa will be the first state to enforce a ban on consumption of gutka and other products which fall under the definition of injurious food products under the Goa Public Health (Amendment) Act, 2005. We are the first state to enforce this ban after the Supreme Court struck down the earlier act saying it did not fall under the purview of the state health authorities," Narvekar told reporters.
