From: Vivian D'Souza <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

From the time the Goa Govt. set up a bureaucracy and organized the Goan NRI
meetings, about 3 years ago, it has been a flop. A great deal of money is spent, and a lot of promises made with no follow through.

The bureaucrats in attendance probably outnumber the NRI Goans 10 to 1. Last year, they barely got 30 Goan NRIs including yours truly. Yet they carry on with this charade. Waste of public money.

We need to go back to a privately organized NRI meet, with the government providing perhaps the space for the meet. The first NRI meets organized by NRIs for NRIs were more meaningful.

Bureaucrats with their lofty ideas, expensive handouts to participants, entertainment etc. just doesnt cut it, in my mind. Anybody else has any views about this ?

Well said Vivian !!

My only addendum to your advice : Do not even go to the Govt for "Meeting Space".

If NRGoans really want to meet meaningfully, they should be able to fund it entirely.

Besides, there are always creative ways to organise with hotels - so that the cost of food would somehow take care of the meeting space. (I know that we are able to do that here)

good wishes
