It is with deep regret and sorrow I got this news of the sad demise of our
teacher Domnic Rego from Arpora Bardez Goa. His house is next to St. Joseph
High School. Around 1963-64 he joined Arpora School as incharge of School
Administration under the late Fr. Mendonca who trained him thoroughly well
in school administration and organising sports meets and games though Mr.
Rego was well equipped in this knowledge. His wife was also a teacher in
the same school. When he at Arpora our School was winning laulers in sports
field partly because of Mr. Rego's hard work and dedication to this field.
He was very close to me because of my sports prowess and it was during his
time that I won firts time All Goa Inter School Individual Championship by
creating a record for Goa in one hundred metres. He always encouraged me
and other athletes and sportsmen to study hard and even telling some of the
teachers especially of Maths, Hindi, Physics and Chemistry to take extra
interest in us because he wanted sportsmen like me to be good in studies
also. He understood many of our woes and problems. My glorious period at
Arpora school was during his time. Later on when I reached in SSC, he left
and joined Parra School but even then always encouraging me. A nice man at
heart, always helpful and cooperative. His brother in law Peter was one of
the fastest runners of Goa then and he too was my colleague. Along with
Peter, Selu, Andre Joao we 4 of us created wonders in Goa in relays and
Domnick Rego was the person responsible for forming that wonderfil quartet
in 100 X 4 and 400 x 4 metres.
May the soul of Domnic Rego rest in peace and may God give lot od Regos for
Goa for the prmotion of sports. In his death Goa lost a great sports
organiser.
