As though he had rubber legs, Savio Soares jinxed his way past a horde of defenders to score the fastest goal of the tournament. In fact, it was the only goal of the day as two more matches were worked off in the All-Goa Inter-Village football tournament, an age-old event that brings together the cream of footballers from the Indian coastal state. Earlier, ABC Benaulim and Aldona United played out a goalless draw after a hard, furious but highly entertaining encounter. The Fr Agnel Pilar versus Loutolim Phoenix Trading match was just into the second minute when Savio Soares made that brilliant strike and that had his team supporters screaming themselves hoarse. The goal also pumped up his team and they went in search of more goals. But, highly embarrassed by that early set back, Loutolim defenders Stanley and Nascimento ensured their citadel was not breached again. They stood tough and tall in the last line of defence. Loutolim tried their best to even the tally and grab an useful point. With Renato providing pin-point passes Francis and Moses tried very hard to weave their way forward. Their moves were thwarted well by Fr Agnel Pilars defenders. The back line of Inacio and Manuel nipped every Loutolim move that threatened to turn dangerous. It was a tough job but they made sure the Fr Agnel Pilar team grabbed all the available points. Savio Soares was, naturally, named Man of the Match and he received his little trophy from Gilroy, the team manager of SFX Old Goa. Earlier ABC Benaulim Emirates ICA and Aldona United played an attacking game right from the start. Both sides went in search of first blood. Benny, Roy Das and Roque worked their legs off for Benaulim but the Aldona defence gave nothing away. Januario, Freddy and Paul were the Aldona attackers who caught the eye with their tireless efforts and enterprising runs. But the Benaulim defenders were up to their task. Paul missed an easy chance for Aldona with only the Benaulim goal keeper to beat. In his hurry, Paul shot straight into the keepers hands. Later in the second half, Aldona player Nevis shot rebounded back off the Benaulim goal post. Benaulim had some consolation though when their player Freddy Palha was named Man of the Match. Freddy received his trophy from Shibu Mathew, client relations manager of RAK Bank. Today, the All Star Entertainment and United Goans-organised tournament will see Vanxim Divar take on FC Siolim North Tours in the first match and that is followed by an encounter between Morjim and Fatorda Jebel Ali Hotel. This tournament, like all others, depend a lot on sponsors. The Goans get their support from Vanxim Divar, Woodwork Engineering Services Middle East Ltd., Modern Design Contracting Company, Gulf Ocean Lights, Refrigerate Equipment Enterprises, Al Rubaiya Z Construction and Building Materials, and Emirates Flight Catering Dubai. Man of the match awards are being sponsored by Nelson Silveira, the team manager of Vanxim Divar. __________________________________ Yahoo! Music Unlimited Access over 1 million songs.
