18 October 2005 DUBAI The display was all skill and, a lot of Goan flair. They showed why they are the champions and they showed that in style. Two goals by Randall Pereira and a late strike by Russell Rodrigues saw defending champions Vanxim Divar humble FC Siolim North Tours 3-0 in a round robin league match of the second All-Goa inter-village football tournament on Sunday. With both Divar and Siolim having already qualified for the next stage of this highly-popular annual event even before kick-off, Sundays match at the Iranian stadium was for pride and respect. But most of all this third round match was about mental superiority, that psychological advantage. Randall Pereira opened the account for his team with the game just five minutes old. Vanxim Divar then took control of the game 15 minutes later when Randall scored added his second off a brilliant pass from Noel. Stunned by these two early strikes, Siolim fought back valiantly. They put everything they had into waves of attack with Wilton, Joe Boy and Antulo doing most of the spade work. But the cool and level-headed Divar back line of Adler, Fortes and Dervik patrolled their area of expertise with such skill that the Siolim play makers and attackers found it difficult to line up goal scoring shots. Five minutes before the final whistle, Siolims misery was compounded when Russell Rodrigues latched on to a pass from Orlando to seal a 3-0 victory for the champions. Man of the Match award unanimously went to Randall Pereira and his trophy was presented by Mafario Antao, team manager of AVC Clipsal. In the second match Fatorda Jebel Ali Hotel held spirited Morjim 1 - 1. It was the third match of the tournament organised by All Star Entertainment and United Goans at Iranian Stadium Dubai for both teams. The spirited match saw a lot of wasted opportunities by both teams. Tessil, Clouston and Vanto worked hard for Fatorda but were held back by Morjims Benjamin, Norbert and William. Similarly Brian, Stansay and Rohit toiled hard for Morjim but were denied by the equally strong Fatorda defence led by Rosario, Sundar and Valento. Both the goals came in the second half. A couple of times Morjim gave Fatorda scary moments but it was Tessil who found the net to put Fatorda Jebel Ali Hotel ahead in the 18th minute of the game. Fatordas happiness was short lived as Brian equalised for Morjim barely a minute later. Tessil Almeida of Fatorda was named Man of the Match and Olavo DSousa, Chairman of the Dubai Bridge Club gave away the trophy. Today, Loutolim Phoenix Trading take on Raia in the first match of the day and that is followed by St Anthonys Pernem battling Fr Agnel Pilar Emirates Flight Catering in their final round. The last round robin league matches featuring AVC Clipsal vs Aldona United and ABC Benaulim Emirates ICA vs St Estevam Parma Foodstuff will be played tomorrow. During the quarter-finals, the organisers will hold a plate competition for the eight non-qualifiers. The Goan tournament is being supported by Vanxim Divar, Woodgroup Engg Services Middle East Ltd., Modern Design Contracting Co., Gulf Ocean Lights, Refrigerate Equipment Enterprises, Al Rubaiya Z. Const. & Building Materials and Emirates Flight Catering Dubai. Man of the match awards are sponsored by Nelson Silveira, team manager of Vanxim Divar. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- | 1st Young Goans International Essay contest 2005 | | | | Theme: WHAT CAN I DO FOR GOA | | More details at | | http://shire.symonds.net/pipermail/goanet/2005-October/034190.html | --------------------------------------------------------------------------
