I’ll do my best to give a over view of this garbage issue which is just laid out on a hot plate, this issue has taken a twist just because of the health hazards citizens face, yes it would be wise to call it a phenomenon, turn the coin and you can also see that its utter ignorance of people, municipality has placed garbage bins where ever possible, but no one is bothered to put the garbage inside the bin, instead just throw it in the bin like a basket ball which causes half the garbage to fall out, which further attracts stray dogs, cats and cattle, who do their part by scattering it all around.

On the other hand people now a days have become more alert concerning their health, this same garbage has been a breeding ground for mosquitoes and other pesticides due to which cholera and malaria has been spreading like hell which at any moment can get out of hand, at the same time environmentalists and social workers are struggling hard to educate the public concerning this garbage issue, which in your view is a futile exercise.

How often have you visited Goa from the US and been to Panaji? Yes, BJP Government did a massive job to improve the look and feel of Panaji, but this look only exists from Patto to GMC, beyond that its garbage and garbage only, have you been on the back streets of Panaji? During your next visit to Goa, try to visit Sant Inez or Tamdimatti, further than that is Miramar, on the other side is Malla next to Miramar is Caranzalem and then comes Dona Paul, all these areas are under the control of Panaji Municipal Council which has a huge income, but has failed to fulfill its duties. Municipality trucks in these areas collect garbage just twice a week and not day to day, the garbage collection could be improved only if it had better supervision.

What ever reason we always like to blame the Government only for its misdeeds, when will we learn to appreciate the good deeds of our Government which is brought to power by the people, or did they come and just sit there from nowhere? From my point of view I feel the Govt. is doing all it can, in support of that we all should also contribute through our efforts, it is said that you can’t clap with one hand, you need two hands to do that.

“are we talking about the general levels of garbage that has apparently existed since Goa was liberated/trashed by India”. How much do you know about the liberation of Goa? I doubt you were born before the liberation, it was not India who trashed garbage in Goa, but it was us Goans who imported this garbage willingly. At that moment we were not bothered concerning this garbage, but once it started haunting us it made us bother, and now we are struggling to clean it up. Concerning the Liberation of Goa try to read some history books, you’ll have a better view of the situation then, but in vain these books are available in Goa only and not in the US.

Totally confused about garbage.

Folks,
Can someone explain to me why this garbage issue has suddenly become a hot item in Goa? Is this a recent phenomenon (as in the last few months), or are we talking about the general levels of garbage that has apparently existed since Goa was liberated/trashed by India.

I understand that there have been numerous attempts in the past to deal with trash, such as imported hoisting trucks that were not very compatible with the bins. More recently, the BJP government had apparently done a massive job to improve the look and feel of Panjim (yeah ok, Panjim does not equal Goa). Was it just skin deep, or is the mess the result of mismanagement by the present government?
