Hello Vivian,
Places could have been named as per the situations as and when things
happened.
And may be there are many reasons in naming a place with odd names.
Can you digest.... there is a ward in Curtorim called 'Kargil' ??

In response to Xac-Xac, Santosh asked:

"What, Goa was part of France ?"

Yes, Santosh, at least a part of Goa, was and is.
My neighboring village is called "Penha da France"
which means foot of France or something like that.'I
dont know whether the name is cute or what ? There's
a similarly named area in Lisbon I believe.

Vivian
