'Football is not won on reputation'

Mahindra United may have begun their season in style, winning the Federation
Cup in Goa by beating Sporting Clube de Goa in the final. But coach Derrick
Pereira feels there's still a long way to go.

Even as the red brigade were enjoying themselves amidst the sun and sea in
Goa, Pereira preferred to visit his family back in Vasco before he leaves
for Malaysia on November 13 to complete his final module in professional
coaching.

How tough was it playing a Goan team in the final in Goa. And yes, being a
Goan yourself?
I never felt like an outsider in Goa in spite of being coach of a Mumbai
team. I have always believed that the Goan is highly appreciative of good
football. It's not like in Kolkata where the local teams are supported so
aggressively. Besides, the Fatorda stadium has always been a happy hunting
ground for Mahindras.
