This years Prestigious 'Divo Sahitya Puraskar 2005', a Rs. 50,000 Cash Award Goes to two Konkani eminent figures one each from Mumbai and Mangalore. They are Mr. Cyprian Albuquerque (Cypri Sampige) from Mumbai and Mrs. Concepta Alva from Mangalore. The award has been shared equally each one getting Rs. 25,000, a Citation and Mann Potr; Mr. Cyprian Albuquerque, a senior Konkani activist for over 30 years. Mrs. Concepta Alva a Broadcaster, an excellent compere in Konkani. They have been selected from the several entries received earlier, by a specially appointed selection panel comprising Mr. Francis Fernandes Cascia (Dramatist), Mr. Walter Lasrado, (Konkani Writer), Mr. Naveen Kulshekar (Konkani Writer), Mr. Lawrence D'Souza, Kamani (Konkani Writer) and Mr. S. Lobo (Konkani Writer). Selection of candidates for the award is made on the basis of those who have made excellent contribution towards Konkani. Mr. Cyprian Albuquerque (57) served Konkani by promoting Konkani periodicals, books, Audio Cassettes, CDs, etc. for over 35 years. Mrs. Concepta Alva (41) Compered a number of high profile programmes in Konkani and other languages. Produced plays, features, interviews, etc. for routine broadcast. Papers presented at various seminars and conventions. The cash amount of Rs. 50,000 is raised by reserving 25% advertisement amount in the 'Divo Mt. Mary special issue' published during 1st week of September 2005. The award will be presented to the winners at a grand function which will be held at a specially decorated 'Francis Fernandes Cascia Matov' at Dr. Antonio da Silva High School Hall, Dadar, Mumbai. at 5.00 P.M. on 17th December 2005. The ceremony also includes Konkani Cultural items. Earlier award winners are Mr. Ronald Pereira, Konkani writer and Mrs. Molly Lobo, Konkani Stage artiste. Mr. P. D'Souza, Mr. Eddie Netto, Rev. Fr. Norbert Fernandes, Late Mr. Amiyar Bombay, Rev. Fr. Pratap Naik S.J., Mr. Valley Quadras Ajekar. Divo, a popular Illustrated Konkani Weekly published from Mumbai since eleven years in Kannada script is widely read in Karnataka, Mumbai and in Gulf countries as well.
