Film Festivals should become self-sustaining; Rane Panaji | November 23, 2005 4:38:23 PM IST Chief Minister Pratapsinh Rane today stressed the need for film festivals to become ''self-sustaining'' and said that Goa as the permanent venue was a tribute to the secular traditions of the state. Addressing the inaugural plenary session of the two-day ''India - The Big Picture'' conference-2005 under the aegis of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here today, the Chief Minister said IFFI, scheduled to be held from tomorrow, will boost tourism in the state and make it a hub for good cinema. Calling for efforts to make Goa a ''Global Film Bazaar'', Mr Rane said his government approved a scheme to provide 50 per cent subsidy, upto a maximum of Rs 20 lakh, to a domiciled Goan for producing a film in English, Konkani, Marathi or Hindi. The scheme, he said, would give a fillip to feature and telefilm production talent here. He sought cooperation from all, particularly the private sector, to encourage good cinema which has in the past brought about social transformation by correcting aberrations. Noted Pakistani actress and director Samina Perzada, CII national entertainment committee chairman Bobby Bedi and CII Goa council chairman Vijay Hede were present among others. Besides, top producers, financiers, bankers, directors and foreign embassies, consulates and actors will be participating in the two-day long conference
