As part of the continuing efforts by the Consulate General of India to improve consular services, it has been decided to introduce Machine Readable Passports (MRPs), with immediate effect. In this regard, passport printers have been installed in the Consulate and printed passports will now be issued to all Indians eligible for new passports and applying for the same on or after October 4, 2005, at the Consulate General. It is hoped that with the introduction of MRPs, the time taken to process the applications for passports of those applicants who were issued their original passports by Regional Passport Offices in India will be reduced further, wherever possible. As a next step to achieve the desired level of automation, graphic scanning of application forms for passports is likely to be introduced by the Consulate General in the near future. http://www.cgidubai.com/press80.htm
