In the age of Scientific and Technological revolution in which we are
living today - Scientist, Professionals, Administrative people and Well
Informed persons face the problem of being overwhelmed by increasing
volume of knowledge and information, which flows from the different
disciplines. For harvesting the growing volume of knowledge and
information to the task of socio-economic development, the paramount
need for ensuring the welfare of human beings, what is required more
than anything else, is the proper classification, categorisation,
organisation and relevant synthesis of knowledge which can be fruitfully
utilized not only by the Scientist, Technologist and Administrator, but
also by the people in general, Information has attained the status as a
new global currency. It is the information that will keep the vitality
of the economy in future. The economy would become an "Information
Movement and Management (IM&M)" Economy.
The Planning Commission has desired to re-establish the DISNIC-PLAN
Project, with Institutional Linkages of grassroot level organisations,
to provide continous support to development agencies in districts during
2004-2007. National Informatics Centre has been entrusted to build up
databases & decision support systems, and communication systems to
facilitate: sustainability of system planning, infrastructure planning
and habitat planning.....
