Dear Eric A simplistic view is that any project will generate jobs and be good for the local economy/people. But one has to dig deep. The Mopa Airport specifically, is being opposed for reasons such as being close to Maharashtra border and hence will be more beneficial to that state than Goa. Also the alleged land purchases around Mopa by politicians to cash on, along with the location at one end (instead of a centralised location), the exhorbitant cost of a greenfield project vis-a-vis upgrading existing ones etc etc are issues which have been touted umpteen times on this debate.
