Hutch to sponsor football tournament in Goa Panaji | December 16, 2005 6:45:58 PM IST Cellular company 'Hutch' today announced its sponsorship of the Goa football Association (GFA) professional football league and 1st Division league tournament 2005-06 and onwards. Hutch Deputy General Manager (Events and promotions) Arup Saikia told reporters here that it is for the first time that a cellular company of the size and stature of Hutch has come forward to support football and it is definitely a harbinger of bigger things to come. It will be Hutch's long-term association with GFA, he said. Mr Saikia also said Hutch, along with promoters Procam International, are now poised to rewrite the course of football in the country and there is no better way to make foray into Indian football than through the Goa Football Association's professional Football league. The teams in the Goa Professional league in the fray for the championship are NFL Champions Dempo Sports club, Runners-up Sporting Club de Goa, Salgaocar Sports club, Churchill Brothers, Fransa Pax, Vasco sports club, MPT and Raia Sporting. Each participating team in the professional league will be given Rs 50,000 while the winners and runners-up team will be presented trophies. There will also be a fair play trophy. The 'man of the match' will be presented with the 'timex man of the match award' and the highest scorer of the tournament will be presented with the 'Golden Boot' award.
