UK: Families Ditching Trad Xmas to Fly Overseas
20 Dec: Life Style Extra (UK). - The traditional family Christmas at home
is being ditched in favour of jetting off to hotter climates and far-flung
exotic destinations, according to travel experts ... India the US and Kenya
are top of the long-haul holiday destinations over the festive period,
according to www.lastminute.com ... John Bevan, holiday and flights
director at lastminute.com, attributes this to the range of cheap breaks in
Goa available this winter. He said: "Trips to India have outsold holidays in
the States this Christmas which we believe is an indication of the country's
booming tourism industry. "It's no longer just the preserve of backpackers;
India is now a mainstream holiday choice for couples, groups and families."
Lastminute.com's Top Holiday destination in 2005 is India. In 2004 India
was 3rd.
