Corporate Bureau New Delhi, Dec 23 Roche Holding AG has given a sub-licence to Hetero Drugs to make avian influenza drug Tamiflu (generic Oseltamivir). The generic maker is allowed to produce the medicine for use in India and developing countries, a Roche statement said on Friday. "While Roche remains on schedule to meet the current orders received from over 50 governments, the collaboration with Hetero will enhance the supply of oseltamivir in some of the world's poorest countries," the company said. Hyderabad-based Hetero Drugs said it would start production by January first week, according to chairman BPS Reddy, reports PTI. The company has a production capacity of three metric tonnes per day and was eyeing Rs 100 crore revenues from Tamiflu in the next year. Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd, which is also in the race to produce Tamiflu, maintains that it is negotiating with the Swiss company for the drug. "We are still in the race for the licence. This (licence) doesn't rule us out because of the volumes involved," said a spokesperson. YK Hamied, chairman, of Cipla which plans to make the drug told FE from Mauritius, "I do not need a licence as the product is not patented in India."
