Rodrigues sworn in as minister in Goa PANAJI, DEC 24 (PTI) Independent MLA Philip Neri Rodrigues was today sworn in as a minister in the Pratapsinh Rane-led Congress government in Goa. Rodrigues, who recently won a case in the high court against the Speaker's decision disqualifying him, was given oath of secrecy by Governor S C Jamir in presence of Chief Minister Rane and other cabinet colleagues here at Raj Bhavan, this evening. Rodrigues was a minister in the erstwhile Manohar Parrikar-led BJP ministry and also held the deputy chief minister's post for few days in the Rane cabinet before being disqualified by then Speaker Vishwas Satarkar in February this year under the anti-defection law. "Justice has finally prevailed and I am happy that the Congress party kept its committment to induct me in the Cabinet," said Rodrigues, who had switched over sides during the toppling of the government nine months back which saw BJP being replaced by Congress. Chief Minister Rane speaking to the reporters after the swearing-in ceremony, said that the decision on giving the deputy chief minister's post to Rodrigues would be taken only after consulting his party High Command. With today's induction, Rane cabinet has 12 ministers which includes eight from Congress, two from NCP, one from Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) and Rodrigues, who is an independent legislator. -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes.
