On New Year's Day, Deepa will be doing Andhra curries without actually singing " Tuje mirchi lagi to main kya karoon?" , Kerala [ where "Minn" does not mean a paramour, just "fish"], Karnataka [ Do not stand up if someone says "Utta", in Kannada it means "food"]and Tamil Nadu. [Do not respond to the question " Tamil teri ma?" with " Aur Hindi mera bap!". In Tamil, it just means " Do you speak Tamil?" ] The programme is listed as "Bedekar Aaswad". Get tickled if you please, but do not get pickled [Bedekar's or otherwise ;-)) ] before the programme. Have some snacks handy if you do not want to drool over the dishes that Deepa conjures.
Deepa, born Deepa Jaganath Mahambre and who grew up next door to me on the fringes of Xetiavaddo/Feira Alta, is one of us. She is the sister of Vithae, Ramesh, Ashok [Babu], Suresh, Vallabh and Deelip Mahambre of Mhapsa with their ancestral home in Aldona. She has been a student of New Goa High School and St.Xavier's College , Mhapsa-Goa. She has served as an Inspector of Customs in Goa before her transfer to Mumbai, promotion and marriage to Dr.Suhas Awchat.
