>From Sanjay Borkar in Margao for Daijiworld News Network - Goa Margao, Dec 25: With a view to giving a grand gift to Christians on the occasion of Christmas, state art and culture minister Digamber Kamat announced free musical instruments for Christian cultural groups. "It is very important to learn Music, and thus preserve our great heritage. Though Goans have it in their blood, still we should keep learning, as music notation has no end," said Mr.Kamat, while speaking to Daijiworld correspondent. Harmonium, Pakwad (percussions), 'Tall' (small cymbal) are being given to Hindu cultural groups over the past years. Also this year it has been distributed to 40 groups of south Goa and also on 28 December they will be distributed to North Goa cultural groups. While revealing the scheme to this correspondent, Kamat further said that members of the legislative assembly had unanimously demanded that government provide the benefits of this scheme also to Christian cultural groups. By taking cognizance of their demands, the department a special scheme, and decided to give drums, trumpet, violin and guitar under this scheme, under which the groups will benefit from next year. -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes.
