GSL embarks on modernisation drive PANAJI: Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL) here has embarked on a modernisation drive to augment its infrastructure facilities to manufacture state-of-the-art vessels with competitive prices and shorter delivery schedules. Informing this to UNI here yesterday, a GSL source said it had appointed world-renowned consultant Haskoning Nederland B.N. of the Netherlands for preparing a master plan for the modernisation project. The GSL has also diversified its activities to manufacture training simulators for Navy and ONGC besides working on a project for setting up a fire fighting training unit for the Navy with simulation facilities, considered the first of its kind in Asia. The shipyard made a hatrick by delivering one ship a month on an average recently, as it delivered an extra fast Patrol Vessel 'Samudra Kumari Chauhan' yesterday ahead of schedule to the Indian Coast Guard. It is constructing two advanced offshore patrol vessels and four extra fast patrol vessels (XFPVs). Three of the XFPVs are likely to be delivered in the financial year 2005-06. It has also received orders for constructing three 90-metre offshore patrol vessels for the Coast Guard and three 105-metre vessels for the Indian Navy. - UNI -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes.
