Addressing a meeting at Keri in Sattari taluka in North Goa, the Chief Minister said the amendment would seek to confer ownership rights on the tenants, who had not hitherto been covered under the Act.
This gains significance in the light of the recent lynching to death of a landlord's son, Prithviraj Rane, on December 28 by irate villagers who had been deprived of tenancy rights to the land they had tilled for ages.
