Sattari bandh peaceful, partial response
Jan 6 – The Sattari bandh which was called to press for the release of
Saleli villagers passed off peacefully with partial response.
There was no untoward incident reported in Sattari even as police made
preventive arrests of 30 villagers mostly employees of Automobile
Corporation of Goa Ltd (ACGL) based at Honda and some BJP activists.
They were detained at Bicholim police station as a preventive measure.
Overall bandh got 50 percent response in the area. Though most of the
roads leading to Sattari were blocked by cutting trees and stones,
administration managed to clear the roads before afternoon. Public
transport was normal.
Most of the shops were closed except for Valpoi town where market was
open in the presence of strong police force. There was very poor
attendance in most of the schools in Sattari taluka.
Police made an unsuccessful attempt to arrest BJP leader Putu Gaokar.
Meanwhile, the hunger strike continues at Saleli.
