The NRIs and NRGs profess love for India/ Goa ,and want to invest and help their motherland. The people running the government express their interest to facilitate and help. However unless we get real, both sides will not suceed. I attended the Sudahorop awards function at the Caritas Hall, and parts of the Samellan at the Kala Academy.I must congratulate the Organisers who have so far got a raw deal and comparatively poor results from their active participation. Unless their concerns are addressed, and we cut the crap, NRI will spell non returning Indians. The english newspapers gave scant importance and poor coverage. The inaguration session was poorly attended, but the Governors speech correctly pointed to the need for a perspective plan to ensure sustainable and balanced economic development with focus on peaceful Goa,its unique culture, and serious cinsideration to the demographic balance in the State. He also warned that Tourism is a temperamental Industry! The EDC presentation raved about their schemes and facilities, praising themselves for thier achievements, whilst the counterbalancing was done by the GIDC spokesperson regarding shortage of land, power, water, and skilled labour! I suggest for the next Samellan, the inaugral session is cut short, all those presentations be first collected together in writing/on CDs, vetted and coordinated by professionals, sent to the NRI s / their rep in Goa BEFORE the Samellan , well in time ,so they can be studied and their questions submitted before the agenda is finalised. If both sides mean business, proper resolutions could be passed after meaningful discussion, and we dont get answers like"We cannot answer this as it is a TCP matter", or that "will be covered in the next session", and Ministers making statements like " We need to rethink our education system" or CMs (present and EX) appearing helpless/reluctant to give assurances or solutions.Policy and strategic direction/planning must be clearly spelled out like was done by the Narsima Rao government with irreversible reforms, continued by the BJP government and now the Centre WORKING TO CARRY IT FORWARD DEMOCRATICALLY by the Congress government.
