India has received some 8,000 applications for overseas citizenship from its Diaspora and the forms will be processed soon, Minister of State for Overseas Indian Affairs Oscar Fernandes said. "More than 8,000 have applied and we expect around 50,000 more applicants for overseas Indian citizenship (OCI)," Fernandes told a press conference on the margins of the 4th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas. Bollywood legend in smoking row
7 Jan: BBC News. Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan has been threatened with legal action over a film poster that depicts him smoking a cigar. The film hoarding was put up on 25 December in Panaji, capital of Goa, but was taken down after a week. He appears on the hoarding smoking a cigar... in violation of an Act which bans cigarettes adverts. Bachchan has starred in more than 100 films and was once dubbed the "most famous actor of the millennium" in a BBC News website readers' poll. Designer does her bit to help neglected animals

Cumbrian-born Kilpatrick, the first person to be jailed under new "sex tourism" legislation, pleaded guilty to 17 assorted sex offences. Pupils make Town Hall appeal for road safety
