-------------------------------------------------------------------------- | Wishing all Goanetters | | a Prosperous | | and | | Happy New Year - 2006 | | Goanet - http://www.goanet.org | -------------------------------------------------------------------------- While the River Princess remains firmly grounded in Goa its a disgrace that a high level team from Goa led by GTDC Chaiman Fatima DSa has had the audacity of planning a trip to Portugal and Spain next week, despite the tourism industry in Goa having rightly advised the Government of Goa that these two countries are no potential clientele.
It is high time political parties in Goa reach a consensus that only people with acumen and knowledge in their field should head the respective corporations. With so many NRIs and NRGs having returned to their soil with expertise in various arenas, the government should find no problem finding capable persons to head the corporations. Fatima D'Sa, the new Chairperson of the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC), has dragged the baggage of political stink into the GTDC. Her move to ease out a dynamic officer, Mr. Elvis Gomes as Managing Director and usher in her trusted lieutenant Mr. Suryanarayan is seen by all as a masterstroke to make quick hay while her Sun, Dr Wilfred De Sousa shines. Suryanarayan and Fatima are well known for their 'Caravela' passion and thus share a perfect understanding on how to gamble on GTDC's fortunes. They have earlier traveled together on foreign jaunts promoting Goan handicrafts at State payer's expense. I am informed by a 'Anjunkar' who has a good knowledge about GTDC properties at prime locations at Baga, Anjuna and Vagator that night long parties are allowed to be held on these properties with the tacit approval of the Chairperson for a hefty fee. The deal is reportedly through the 'Daya' of a middleman who happens to be a former Corporator of the Corporation of City of Panjim. Certainly Elvis Gomes would have been a thorn for them. The moot question is, should out of power politicians be rehabilitated through these corporations of the Government to turn these into centers of corruption? It would be relevant to point out the case of a former Chairman who was compelled by the High Court to pay back to GTDC what was misappropriated. Don't Pratapsingh Rane and Wilfred De Sousa remember that?
