Re: Mario's observation:
Ask the 50 million Muslims that Bush has liberated if they
feel imperiled by him.
Tony observes:
This question was actually asked by a recent TIME Magazine survey in Iraq.
Whilst a majority of the Shias interviewed were happy at the ouster of Saddam
Hussein, they were less than happy at the consequent American occupation and
wanted the U.S. forces out of Iraq.
   Satyameva Jayate!

Dear Tony, Gabe, and other non-combatants taking part in this futile battle of
words:

Don Quixote and Sancho Panza, allies in the adventures narrated by
Cervantes so many centuries ago, have been fierce adversaries on Goanet for
longer than I can remember. I will let you decide who is the Don and who is
Sancho. A year ago I emailed the two of them privately urging them to moderate
their insults; the advice seemed to have worked for an hour or so.
May I suggest that we adopt the following strategy to save this list: When
their names appear in a post, ignore the message. Do not get involved! They
will eventually tire of battling each other if they get no support from any of
us.
And even if you do make a positive contribution that is very much to the
point, you will immediately provoke a knee-jerk response from the master of
knee-jerk responses: you will be lumped with "Islamo fascists" (who became
"Ilsamo fascists" in one post) and held personally responsible for the misdeeds
of Saddam what's his name.
And if I'm attacked by either party for this post, as I expect to be,
please do not come to my defense. Ignore the Don and Sancho. Help them fade
away.
Regards and peace to all, the pugnacious battlers included---
    Victor Rangel-Ribeiro
