Operation of stone crushers stopped in Saleli taluka NT Staff Reporter Panaji Jan 10: The deputy collector and sub-divisional magistrate, (Bicholim division), Mr Arvind Bugde in a conditional order issued today has stop operation of 13 stone crushers in Saleli village in Sattari taluka. He directed the owners of these crushers to submit the details about the precautionary measures adopted by them to suppress dust pollution along with the environment impact assessment plan. The conditional order for removal of public nuisance was passed following the complaint of the Valpoi police inspector against the owners of the 13 crushers at Bodanwada, Saleli, mentioning that the stone crushing occupation has become injurious to the public health and comfort by reason of dust pollution beyond tolerable limit. The order is issued under Section 133 (1) (b) of Criminal Procedure Code, 1973. The order also directed the owners of these crushers to submit the short-term and long-term precautionary measures to be adopted by them at the crushers site duly approved by the Goa State Pollution Control Board. The owners have been directed to appear before the sub-divisional magistrate court at Bicholim on January 23 at 9.30 a.m and show-cause why this order should not be made absolute. The order further said that if the owners of these crushers fail to appear before the sub-divisional magistrate's court, the order shall be made absolute and the owners will be liable for penalty prescribed under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code. -- Cheers, Gabe Menezes.
