It does not matter that the sums involved were small, like Rs 5,000 to Rs 50,000. What matters is the principle and the need for the MPs to set themselves up as responsible role models.

On the same basis, the Speaker should take action against those like Natwar Singh, Laloo Prasad Yadav, etc., who have also taken money, given to them primarily because they are politicians. I am surprised that there is no such move in the media asking the Speaker to make a proper follow-up on his actions.

There are a few questions which need airing.

While stipulating that corruption in India is rampant - even within the precincts of Parliament, and that it is horrible beyond believe

1: On what legal basis was the Rajya Sabha member expelled ?

2: Were the accused given a chance to Cross Examine their accusers?

3: If not ...why not? Is it because ALL the other Alibabas would fall?

I notice that the Lok Sabha Speaker Somnath Chatterjee said that "under the Constitution, Parliament is the supreme authority"

Is that an absolute truth ?

Under the India Constitution, is the Parliament is the supreme or is it only supreme in Legislative matters (to make/amend/repeal law) ?

I submit that IF Parliament in India is Supreme (full stop) without a separation of powers, then - it is a law unto itself.

For a body which has a long list of folks with criminal records, it is amazing that the janata (public) is happy with a token gesture of removing those who got caught.

This means that the Hidden Canera has more power than the Law itself. If one corrupt MP wishes to see the end of another corrupt MP (his political opponent), All he has to do is organize a hidden camera expedition.

Then he (the first corrupt MP) is free to do as he pleases ...till a hidden camera takes him on.

Brilliant democracy .... if I may say so
