Hi Jerry
I have definitely come across the view that Gamal Nasser had closed the Suez
Canal so that no reinforcements from Portugal could reach Goa in 1961.
Indeed, I think this was on a TV programme. However, I do not recall if
Nehru was behind it. But, I would not be surprised as these parties were
part of a non-aligned group assisting newly independent (previously
colonised) countries.
I did a lot of this in history but have forgotten most of it!

Hello all
Have read a lot on this subject but no where anyone mentions of the
involvement of Gamal Abdel Nasser, the then Egyptian President and a very
good friend of Pandit Jawharlal Nehru. I have heard that on Nehru's
instructions, Gamal Nasser had closed the Suez Canal, so that no
reinforcements from Portugual could reach Goa.
Could someone shed some light on this?
