GIM on a path of ambitious growth Navhind Times Panaji, Jan 29: The Goa Institute of Management (GIM) has been successful in placing all 104 students who are completing their full time PGDM course from the batch of 2004-06, within approx two days of the on campus placement activity, at an average salary of approx Rs 5.24 lakh per year. This is the best performance of the institute so far, and the pattern of placement is a true reflection of the growth of the job market at this segment of academic activity, with a little over 50 per cent of the placements in the IT or IT-related sectors of industry.
The GIM is therefore keen to strengthen this area of its faculty and of its infrastructure. In the recent past the GIM has taken significant steps to upgrade its infrastructure both in terms of external and internal appearances. Its outside and inside is being modernized to reflect the growing expectations. All students have their own laptops which can access any of this at most places in the campus including their hostel rooms. The curriculum of the institute is also currently being updated to bring it in line with the highest expectations of industry and of society. The syllabus has always been continuously been upgraded to bring it in line with the best in the country and other comparable international institutions. The institute started in 1993 with a humble beginning at the premises of the Salgaoncar Law school in Panaji, was, a year later, moved to its current premises at the old Ribandar hospital. The main credit for the start and the growth of the institute must go individually to Fr Romuald D'Souza, who worked tirelessly to bring it to the level it has reached today. He was its founder director from the outset till he retired in 2004 and handed it over to his successor Professor Kalro, who also later resigned and one of the board member was asked to hold fort. The institute has now advertised for a new director and a new dean that will strengthen its academic infrastructure and place it firmly on the path for a more ambitious growth.
