CCP elections in March BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, JAN 30 — Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao said the elections to the Corporation of the City of Panaji will be held in March. Speaking to reporters at the Old Secretariat on Monday, Alemao said the Corporation's elections will not be postponed and will be held in March before the HSSC/SSC examinations. Common cadre for municipalities: The common cadre for municipalities will be introduced in the next two to three months, after taking into confidence all concerned, including the Opposition, stated Alemao. He said he had meetings with the chief executive officers of the municipalities. Also in the pipeline is an amendment to the Municipalities Act, to prohibit any member of the municipal council from introducing a no confidence motion against the chairman of the council within six months of assuming office. Garbage treatment plants: Consultants for setting up of garbage treatment plants in Margao, Ponda and Panjim have been finalised and some sites have also been identified. Mahabali Environ from Pune has been appointed as consultants. Two sites one each at Baiguinim and St Inez have been shortlisted. Alemao claimed that 75 per cent of scrap yards in the State have been removed, while the rest will go soon. Alemao also clarified that the Government has not offered any rehabilitation package to scarp yard dealers but any proposal coming from the dealers will be considered. -- Salaam ali kum.
