Do not set up hall, Alemao urged BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, JAN 30 — Former Cuncolim MLA Arecio D'Souza has urged Urban Development Minister, Joaquim Alemao to refrain from setting up the community hall and market complex in the low-lying fields and called for planned development of Cuncolim in the interests of the people. In a representation, D'Souza drew attention of the Minister to the fact that the location for the two projects is a densely populated and congested area surrounded by the market, Church and educational institutions. He recalled that the outgoing BJP council had acquired the low lying land for parking-cum-commercial complex, with a further proposal to set up the market complex away at Calata from the Cuncolim bazar. Incidentally, the proposal to acquire land at Calata stands dropped, with D'Souza seeking to know from Alemao why he has not started land acquisition process afres and away from the heart of the town to avoid congestion. Secondly, the former MLA said that the two major projects — football ground and bus stand — are now coming up in Cuncolim just because he went ahead with the land acquisition process despite objections from the tenants. According to him, Alemao had changed the location of the community hall from Markut Maddicotto to the present location for political reasons as the project was proposed by BJP Councillor Rajan Naik. "The Markut-Maddicotto area was an ideal location for the community hall as it would have taken care of parking requirements for the next 50 years, which is not possible at the present location", D'Souza added. -- Salaam ali kum.
