Commercial floats banned this year BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 8 - No commercial floats will be permitted to take part in this year's King Momo Carnival Parade to be held on February 25 in order to give boost and encourage traditional floats for which loads of prizes have been earmarked.
According to a press note issued here by the Panaji Traditional Festivals & Carnival Committee, the Directorate of Tourism will organize Carnival on a grand scale from February 25 to 28. The King Momo's parade will be followed by the floats' competition on February 25. Total prize money of Rs 3 lakh will be given out to six categories of floats - sponsored, traditional, club/institution, family, clowns and fun junky cars. The highlight of this Carnival is the participation of a group from Switzerland - Elfer-Frosche - at the Panjim parade on February 25, the press note states. Similarly, there will be other programmes from February 26 to 28 at INOX courtyard and Azad Maidan. The committee will also hold three 'khel tiatrs' (Konkani dramas) at Azad Maidan free for the public starting at 6.30 pm everyday.
