HC raps Assagao communidade for tree felling BY HERALD REPORTER PANJIM, FEB 8 - The Bombay High Court at Goa on Wednesday lashed out at Communidade of Assagao for not initiating action against those responsible for felling of trees in the Communidade land against which a petition is being heard before the Court.
Stating that it is utter failure on the part of Commu-nidade of Assagao, a Division Bench headed by Justice R M S Khandep-arkar has asked the commu-nidade to file an affidavit within fifteen days on what action it has taken, or action it proposes to take against the illegal felling of trees in its jurisdiction. The Forest Dept investigating the case has been asked to expedite its inquiry, and also file a report within fifteen days. Complaining of cutting of trees in the jurisdiction of Communidade land, the petitioner had prayed that felling of trees should be immediately stopped, and that land be restored to its original form. While in its interim order sometime back, the court had asked the State to do the needful. Refusing to pass further order today, the court asked the Communidade of Assagao to file an affidavit spelling out what action it has taken.
