Jaya Prada urges parents to promote culture in children BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, FEB 9 — Noted actress and MP Jaya Prada on Thursday made an impassioned plea to protect the great Indian art, culture and music for posterity, with a special message for parents to promote culture in their children. "Art never dies. I am first an artist than a politician. I always look out for opportunities to witness dance or to perform a dance. People love me as an artist", she said, while speaking after inaugurating the 6th four-day Kala Rang festival of art, dance and dance, which got off to a scintillating start today. Underscoring the need to protect culture, she said only in India one finds so many cultures, art and music, and said "it's the responsibility of everyone to protect this rich cultural heritage". Saying that her mind and heart is longing for culture, Jaya Prada said "Art and culture has no geographical boundaries. It should be protected and nurtured". The MP recalled her past wherein she started learning dance and music from the age of six. "Dance is my passion and music my special interest", she added. Saying that she had an ambition to become a doctor, Jaya Prada said her grooming made her an actress, adding "I have no regrets for my decision". Referring to her present status as an MP, Jaya Prada said she diversified herself from art and entered politics. But, she said she has gone back again to art by performing a ballet dance. "I received a lot of encouragement for my return to art. Art never dies", she said. Deeply honoured by her presence at the festival, Jaya Prada said she will always be at the disposal of Goan people for protecting and nurturing art.
